As the first offering from the brand after a major expansion, Maker’s Mark Maker’s 46 bourbon is uniquely finished bourbon based on Maker’s own standard wheated recipe developed in limited batches of 1,000 gallons. During the aging process, thickly seared French oak staves are placed in the newly emptied standard barrels before being refilled to mature another 2-3 months. This ongoing NAS release has a mash bill of 70% corn, 16% wheat, and 14% barley with a matured barrel strength of 94% proof with aromatic notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak dipped in butter. The palate is rife with warm kitchen spices, buttered biscuits, caramel, and cinnamon-toasted wheat.
